CURATED MARKETPLACE
Carve carefully curates design-led products in its catalogue, markets, accepts payments and fulfils orders on behalf of listed partners.
Challenge
We’ve noticed that many talented artisans, struggle to reach customers who value and appreciate their craftsmanship. This disconnect often leads to a lack of recognition and fair compensation.
Carve was born out of this need to bridge the gap between artisans and those who seek unique, handcrafted ceramic pieces. Through extensive research and direct collaboration with artisans in the UK, we identified that the problem isn't the lack of talent or craftsmanship, but rather the limited access to a broader market digitally and sustainable business opportunities.
By curating a platform that showcases these hard-to-find, eco-conscious ceramic products, Carve is solving this problem. We provide artisans with the visibility they deserve while offering customers one-of-a-kind pieces that tell a story. Our mission is to create a sustainable ecosystem where craftsmanship is celebrated, and artisans are empowered to thrive.
Market Landscape
The market size, measured by the value of net revenue of the pottery ceramics industry is estimated to reach $11.55 billion by the end of 2023 and is expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of +3.80% until the end of 2030, reaching a total value of $15.00 billion within the next seven years.
The advent of digitalization has revolutionised how pottery ceramics are bought and sold. Online marketplaces and e-commerce platforms have provided a global stage for artisans and pottery businesses to showcase their creations. This trend has expanded the reach of independent potters, allowing them to connect with a broader audience and gain recognition beyond their local communities.
Additionally, digital tools have facilitated efficient inventory management, order processing, and customer engagement. As technology continues to advance, digitalization is expected to play an increasingly vital role in shaping the landscape.
The ceramics market can be challenging. Artisans who create beautiful, handcrafted pieces often struggle to reach customers who truly appreciate their work. At the same time, consumers looking for unique, high-quality ceramics can find it difficult to discover these one-of-a-kind items in a sea of mass-produced products.
And don't forget, when sourcing handmade ceramics from traditional outlets, prices can be steep due to added layers of distribution and retail markups. This can make it harder for buyers to access the art they love and for artisans to receive fair compensation for their work.
Let’s try to simplify it.
My role
As usual in a startup, if the initiative is your own, you would be the one and only driver for it. So all that happened with this initiative outside of the develepment. My work —research, сoncept, design, analytics, etc.
One of the main things here was to add all the UX and product analysis. It was entirely on my shoulders because, at that moment, we had no UX designers in the team.
